July marks the fourth month that I have officially left my part time job to be a full time artist, and now that my Mondays through Fridays (and Saturdays—and Sundays) can be fully dedicated to my art career, I’ve been able to designate time in my schedule to do all of the logistical things needed to push my career forward, such as reaching out to galleries, submitting artwork, updating my artist resume and statement, and establishing myself as a wholesale artist for local businesses in Sacramento!
Success seems to come and go in waves, and currently I've been embracing a chapter of momentum in my career. My latest oil painting (seen below), titled Softness and Rage has been warmly received in my local community. It was chosen as the cover of Inside Sacramento ‘s June publication, and has been accepted to show in an annual regional exhibit at Pence Gallery in Davis, CA called Slice! After many years of submitting my work, I am so proud and excited to show at a gallery that I’ve admired since my time as an undergrad at UC Davis.
I’ve also been graciously invited to show my work at Mishka’s cafe, a beloved, 90s era coffee shop in Davis, CA for the month. I went out on a creative limb and decided to frame all nine of my fine art prints with a custom, colorful frame and custom, colorful mats. It took many weeks of planning, scavenging for the perfect frames, ordering fine art prints in large sizes, and researching where to find colored mats and the correct picture framing hardware in my city. Everything came together, and I’m so glad I decided to go bold with my vision.
